Spring Time

Spring time is the season of the year when the sun returns, the birds migrate up North, the cute little polar bears come out from the den with their mom and life starts to happen more often outside the warm shelter. The spring break up means also that travelling by boat is possible again, fish and whales are returning and walrus on ice floes are passing by…

Many excellent polar bear sculptors have been creating a tremendous body of great works showing so many aspects of this wonderful ‘King of the Arctic’. Hosting for three times a Solo-Show with his works we would like to point out Ohito ASHOONA. Dynamic, powerful and energetic are his works to be described. But words, however, will never do his sculptures justice. Only when you behold the tenderness between a mother polar bear and her cub as created by Ashoona’s hands and mind; or watch cold serpentine stone evoke the warmth and caring this artist has watched and then brought forth from his Arctic home and culture, can his skill be truly felt. Among those who own his works are Yoko Ono, NHL players and more. Collections including the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Canada Council Art Bank and the Winnipeg Art Gallery show his work in exhibitions. In 2002 Ashoona received the National Aboriginal Achievement Award’s in Arts and Culture.
